Wineries & Wildflowers near Emu Point Motel

Albany and the surrounding areas is home to a wide range of beautiful wildflowers. When in season (starting late August and continuing into the summer months) many of our visitors enjoy combining walks with viewing wildflowers, and visiting some of our local wineries on their travels.

We have some fabulous wineries in our area and the list below will help you to choose one to visit, or you can spend a full day visiting our local wineries.

Denmark Wineries

There is lots to see and do in the Denmark area. From Albany, it will take you around 40 minutes (approximately 54km) to drive to Denmark. Check out the Denmark Visitor Centre website for more information on Denmark’s Attractions. To view a full list of wineries, click here.

Mt Barker Wineries

The Mount Barker region is renowned for its fresh produce and world-class wineries. From Albany, it will take you around 35 minutes (approximately 50km) to drive to Mt Barker. Check out the Mount Barker Visitor Centre website for more information on Mt Barker Attractions.

Porongurup Range National Park - Wildflowers & Castle Rock Skywalk

The Porongurup Range National Park is home to unique wildflowers and extraordinary birds and wildlife. The Castle Rock Skywalk (allow around 2 hours) begins at Castle Rock Road and at the summit you will find the new Granite Skywalk. From Albany, it will take you around 40 minutes (approximately 50km) to drive to the Porongurup National Park.

 

Stirling Range and Wildflowers

WildflowerThe Stirling Range National Park is located 75km North of Albany and it will take you approximately one hour to drive there from Albany. The Stirling Range rises to over 1000 metres; of the many mountains, Bluff Knoll is the most famous as it has the highest peak in Western Australia's South West region. The Stirling Range and the surrounding areas are renowned for amazing wildflowers during September and October:

  • See the spectacular wildflowers of the south coast, often regarded as one of the best attractions near Albany WA.
  • Enjoy a combination of wildflowers and great sightseeing.
  • Look out over the vast expanse of the Stirling Range which rises majestically out of the surrounding plains.
  • In season the spring wildflowers carpet the entire area around you.
  • The Stirling Range is also home to 1,500 species of plants, 87 of which are found nowhere else, including the famous ‘Darwinia’ mountain bells.
  • There are also an astonishing 123 orchid species alone within the park.
  • If you book a guided tour, your guide will provide you with an introduction to the unique wildflowers of this stunning national park.
  • Short walks, be sure to take your camera.

Torndirrup National Park

WildflowerIn late Spring and early summer, Torndirrup National Park is a great place to see wildflowers and it is only 15 minutes drive (approximately 15km) from Albany. The area is also known for its spectacular features including the Natural Bridge, The Gap, and the Blowholes. Click here for further information. You can make a day of it by visiting Discovery Bay and its Historic Whaling Station, the Botanic Garden and the Native Wildlife enclosures which are home to kangaroos (including rare white kangaroos), wallabies, wombats, bandicoots and possums. Discovery Bay also has a cafe overlooking King George Sound which provides light lunches, freshly cooked fish, homemade cakes and coffee.
